We provide all advanced, education and basic dental services for children. This includes children eligible for the child dental benefits schedule (CDBS). With an appropriately qualified health practitioner, your child’s long term health and habits can be started very early in their lives, ensuring a long and healthy relationship with their teeth.

The CDBS is  a Australian Government initiative that entitles eligible children to a maximum of $1,000 worth of dental services over a two-year period. The benefits cover basic dental services like examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions.

It’s important to get your child into good habits early, and regular dental visits are key. Initial visits are more about having a bit of fun with the dentist and getting used to being in the dental chair.

We recommend that you bring your child for their first visit around 12 months old or as soon as their first tooth comes through. This is a good opportunity for us to have a chat about their oral health, do a quick examination and get them used to being in the surgery.

Some of the services we provide for children include:

  • Comprehensive examinations
  • Coordination of dental treatment with other health care providers
  • Radiographs (x-rays)
  • Cleaning (scale and polish)
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Fissure sealants
  • Fillings

ADVICE FOR PARENTS

Avoid giving your child sugary drinks, hard sweets that need to be sucked, sticky lollies and chewy sweets.

These are all really bad for your child’s teeth and can cause tooth decay. Try to encourage them to eat healthy snacks like fruit, vegetables, cheese and milk instead.

Make sure they brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. You should help them with their brushing until they’re around 10 years old.
