Tooth extractions are one of the dental services we perform. It is one of the most common dental procedures. If a tooth is too decayed or damaged to be repaired with a filling or other options, you might need to have the tooth extracted. The tooth extraction process is generally simple and straightforward, and our team will do everything possible to make sure you’re comfortable throughout.

Your oral health is our top priority, and we will always recommend the best possible course of treatment for you. In some cases, a tooth extraction may be the best option.

The tooth extraction process

Dental extractions are usually quick and straightforward procedures. Our team will numb the area around the tooth to be extracted, so you shouldn’t feel any pain during the procedure.

In some cases, we may need to surgically remove the tooth. This is generally only necessary if the Tooth is impacted (stuck under the gum line) or if there is extensive damage to the tooth.

After the tooth is removed, we will provide you with instructions on how to care for the area to promote healing. It’s important to follow these instructions carefully to avoid complications.

After a tooth extraction...

… It’s important to take care of your teeth and gums to promote healing. Here are some tips:

  • Avoid drinking through a straw for the first 24 hours, as this can cause bleeding.
  • Eat soft foods for the first few days, gradually reintroducing other foods as you feel comfortable.
  • Avoid chewing hard foods or crunchy foods for at least a week.
  • Brush your teeth gently and avoid vigorous flossing for the first week.
  • Rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times a day to help reduce swelling and pain.
  • Use ice packs or cold compresses on your face for the first few days to help reduce swelling.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars to come in and are often problematic. They can crowd existing teeth, become impacted (stuck), or even grow in at an abnormal angle. For these reasons, wisdom teeth removal is a common procedure.

Dental implants

A tooth extraction can be followed up with a dental implant to replace the extracted tooth. These titanium posts are surgically placed in the jawbone and allowed to fuse with the bone (a process called osseointegration). Once the implant is securely in place, a replacement tooth (called a crown) can be attached to the implant. Dental implants are a popular option because they look and function similarly to natural teeth.

Your oral health is our priority

Please note that a surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Even something as relatively simple as a normal tooth extraction can carry risks and should always be performed by an appropriately qualified health practitioner. Some of these risks include infection, damage to nearby teeth, and/or nerve damage. You should always consult with your dentist or oral health care provider before making any decisions about treatment.
